FAA Regulations for Flying With Batteries
Did you know it’s safe to fly with most battery-powered devices? If you’re planning a trip, feel confident in carrying your laptop computer, cell phone, camera or PDA on board.
Spare batteries should be packed in your carry-on baggage and kept in the passenger compartment. Try to keep any spares in the original packaging to prevent short-circuiting or enclose in its own plastic bag or container.
Batteries allowed in carry-on baggage include:
- dry cell alkaline
- dry cell rechargeable (Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) and Nickel Cadmium (NiCad)
- lithium ion
- lithium metal
If a battery-powered device is packed in your checked baggage, remember to use a protective case to prevent accidental activation.
