All Battery Donates More Than 1,000 Batteries to U.S. Troops!
January 9, 2009
The Interstate All Battery team recently donated more than 1,000 AA and AAA alkaline batteries to the U.S. troops being deployed out of DFW Airport. This effort was in conjunction with the USO—a private, nonprofit organization that supports the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services—plus much-needed supplies for their tours of duty.
The opportunity came after Kenneth Palmer, All Battery Training Manager, was told by a fellow team member that the USO was performing a drive through a local radio station, collecting everything from hand lotion to batteries. Ken contacted the station about the drive only to discover it was already over, so he called the USO directly to ask how Interstate could help.
“When I contacted the USO they almost came unglued when they found out we wanted to donate batteries,” Ken said. “The volunteer told me that battery-powered electronic devices like MP3 players, cameras and video cameras are the troops’ lifeline to home while in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Ken and ABC Director Jim Eades went to the airport on December 22 to shake the hands of soldiers and help the USO in delivering the much-appreciated batteries. “Jim made the whole thing possible,” said Ken. “He was very eager to be a part of this effort.”
The All Battery team is currently working toward doing a similar venture in the future.
